Musical Chairs

The AIS/GA Olympic Squad has been 'reviewed' now that the Games proper are over. Er... seems odd to me, seeing as it's pretty much everyone that was already in the pre-Games squad:

Georgia, Ashleigh, Emma, Amber, Melanie, Dasha, Lauren, Shona

... minus Oliva who will be heading off for NCAA before the year is out, and of course we have the added bonus of 'visiting athlete' Emily Little. The team will be re-reviewed after National Clubs in November.

Various International Level 10 athletes have been selected for a Towards 2010 development camp in late September. These include the very decorated Natalia Joura, intriguing Waverley twin Emma Collister, and potential Commonwealth Games stars Amaya King-Koy, Angela Donald and Jessica Thompson, all of whom I had the fortune to see compete this year.

I personally predict big things from Amber Fulljames. In fact, FROM TODAY I hereby throw my full support behind the pocket rocket from Queensland, who made a name for herself at the National Apparatus Challenge earlier this year, in the face of recent retirements by the likes of Sims, Dykes and Webb. She has lovely toepoint and a lot of power. She is surely the shining future of Queensland gymnastics, who carries the torch for cute frecklies further than Li'l Orphan Annie ever could! Shine on, Amby! Go you good thing!

VOTE 1 (B)AMBI FOR NATIONAL CHAMPION!

I'm with you Mez. I think Amber has a very bright future, just wasn't quite ready for the big stage this year. I am facinated by her size (or lack of it!) and power. Exciting times for Gymnastics in Australia I say.

Imagine having her AND little Britt Greely in the same squad!! How little and cute! It's good to see some strong up & coming QLDers again. I miss having the knowledge we'd always be represented thanks to Lisa & Danielle's long careers plus the stars of Dykes, Sims & even Webb for a bit.

Go the QLDers!

Amber competed as a Senior at this years Aus Champs.

ORLY? I was sure they mentioned that she was the only junior invited to compete at the NAC (ergo she is senior in 2009)...? Hm...

well surely they could not have named her (amber) to the olympic squad if she was a junior. therefore must she must have been senior this year.
That plus the fact she is listed as a senior (DOB 1992) on the GA profile page....

Amber definitly competed Senior
(8thAA, 8th UB, 6th BB, 5T FX)
All of the 2010 squad girls competed Inter 10 except for Ashley Cooney and Breanah McArthur (Inter 8) and Zoe Lorenzin and Monica Sloan (Did not compete at championships - maybe they were injured)
Angela, Emma, Natalia, Amaya and Zoe are fully funded. Courtney, Bridget, Tierra, Amelia, Svetlan and Jessica are partially funded

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as antagonistic in my comment. Sadly, text doesn't convey genuine curiosity in tone.

Point noted, thankyou (er... if you two anon's are the same person).

Why only one Collister twin in the AIS camp?

re. the collister twins.

Rachel quit a while back and did not compete at nationals this year.
Apparently (second hand news) she went back to training a few months ago but on less hours so she could continue to do school sport etc.
so maybe she is not right back into it all yet or because she has not "proven" herself in competition this year?

(sorry if this is not accurate!!)

I heard that Rachel did not want to do elite anymore and is training more for the enjoyment than anything else so that she could do more school sports, etc.

I 'unno. I'm still investigating the conspiracy theory that their parents subjected them to a cute-off and the loser had to stay at home. I'd hate to think they're in cahoots with the people who picked that singing girl for the Beijing opening ceremony...

I think that unless Amber can get a decent vault she may have trouble making teams since the team format is going to 5-5-4 for prelims from 09 and will favour AAers. In other words, from next year every team member will have to compete every event in prelims unless they want to run the risk of putting up only 4 athletes on one event, which leaves no room for mistakes.

As usual kerby purcell (the forgotten one ) has been left of all lists ,before her injury she was in the squad of 10 and is younger than amber emma everyone in that squad. And is back training at last .

Worlds '09 is AA and Apparatus only--no team. Only 4 gymnasts, 2 AA and 2 per apparatus.
For '10 and '11 Worlds, it is still the 6-5-4 format in qualifications and 3-3 for team finals. ONLY for the Olympics is the team limited to the 5-4-4 for qualifications, still 3-3 for team finals. Hope that helps clear that format up.

Anonymous said that they are facinated by her size (or lack of it) well I can tell you I have met her grandmother and she is also tiny so the genes are in there somewhere. Don't be fooled she shows a powerful determination, strength of spirit, courage in the face of adversity, maturity beyond her years, the sunniest personality, is kind and caring and her academic progress is remarkable. Amber displays no airs or graces and expects none - she is not afraid to get in and get the job done - but more importantly she doesn't have tickets on herself like so many other gymnasts I have met. You might be right about her not being ready for the big stage this year -A man visiting Melbourne from Delhi said that to miss the Olympics by a margin is no great matter because it will only make your will to succeed stronger - I think India will be her big stage.
When I see her floor routine I can't believe she can fly so high. My vote goes to the Pocket Rocket from Queensland - congratulations should go to her for being such a terrific role model for the very young up and coming Queensland Gymnasts - go for it Amber

Amber is a senior and is the same age as Kerby and Emma.
Next year seniors include Britt, Tain, Emily and Chantelle.
