Jet Set

Best wishes to Jets gymnasts Isis Lowry, Harriet Adcock, Brittany Engellener and Brianne Allen who are representing their club and country at this weekend's Nadia Comaneci Invitational in Oklahoma City, USA.

You might remember Isis' international debut at the very same competition last year.

Good luck, ladies!

How odd, as they don't seem to take part in many national events

Not sure what you mean as Brianne and Brittany competed IDP 8 at Nationals last year. I think it's great that they are given alternative opportunities to the state and national comps which are pretty boring by this level. Competing at the same venues against the same girls year in year out.

Yes but to represent Australia on a National Team you have to compete against your countrymen first

'How odd' (8:54).

Not sure why this is odd. Harriet, Brianne and Brittany all made Victorian State team in 2010 and competed in Perth.

I think they would be representing their club!

They would definately be representing their club as they are on no national squads

What I meant was that whilst it all well and good to travel for your club and I encourage that completely. Isis and maddi also need to compete at state and national competitions and trials as much as possible so that they get a chance to make squads

Is their head coach a little rebellious? I was reading his philosophies about observing WOGA and working out the best ways to run programs etc and it reminded me of Sloan's coach, Marvin Sharp, who shunned TOPS in the US and made his own development program called SHAPES. Has he been a little lukewarm on IDP/Team Future in the last little while?

I say good on him for doing it his own way and trying to find out more rather than just accepting what is spoon-fed to him. If you ask me the IDP thing right down to L1 is a little too prescriptive and does not allow coaches to really use their own coaching style or development ideas.

Of course the gymnasts are representing their club, Jets Gymnastics, at the meets in the USA. What a fantastic opportunity these girls have to gain training and competition experience in an international environment.

And, of course these girls are aiming to make national teams in future. Injuries last year prevented Isis and Maddie from competing trials.

Brianne, Brittany and Emily Dean (not currently in US) are all members of the Team Future squad.

Here's an article from The Couch Gymnast regarding Isis Lowery and Madeline Green: http://www.thecouchgymnast.com/?p=1857

All the best girls!

Good on the Gym Jets, the people making these negative comments about these girls not being on the national squad. If they see value in bringing their girls overseas for experience so be it. They would be funding it themselves so whats the problem. Go Gym Jets don't sit and wait, be proactive like you are.

Just for clarification, the girls in question are from the "Jets Gymnastics" High Performance Centre in Eltham Victoria.

'Gym Jets' is a completely different program for Junior Elite Talent Squads, based in South Australia.
