2011 Worlds: WAG TF LIVE!

From 9pm AEDST

Follow live scores at the sources I've linked to in previous posts. There are too many!

Your best bet for watching a stream is to download Stealthy add-on for Firefox; that way you can configure your network settings for the UK, and should be able to watch the BBC iPlayer live feed of the final tonight.

But you didn't hear that from me...

*taps finger to nose*

Gymnastike has a video from the training hall here. The girls look damn fine on beam! I think they're beyond ready for this!

****************************************

Australia leo- GA has posted at facebook that we will "not miss" the girls out on the floor. Err... should I expect good or bad then!?

I am watching here using Firefox Stealthy add-on:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/gymnastics/15235274.stm

here we goooooooooooo

Australia is in ORANGE AND PINK! I swear that's what I glimpsed! I feel like Russia's dark green on black should be Australia's!

Beam:
Brennan - IG says Ash hit, with a wobble and step on dismount. Stayed on! 13.9?
Monckton - fell on LOSO, overcooked double pike.
sorry to be vague, guys, my feed keeps chopping and my computer craps itself any time I change tabs so i can't see all quick hits! 12.93
Mitchell- very cautious. Slight error again on her switch leap but stays on. big step on dismount

Ironic - Britain;'s union-jack-with-diamentes leo looks like an Aussie flag!

BBC SHOWS LOZ! Yup, fluro pink and metallic orange with black/dark purple slashes. Orange scrunchie. Acro and wolf turn great. Cautious in jumps. nearly comes off on front tuck. 14.566

Floor:
Miller- Aus is up first. I hear larrissa's music on the stream but don't see her. From IG:
Miller--AUS--Floor--triple turn, tuck Arabian double front to leap, layout front to double twisting front, front full punch front full, 2 1/2 dismount and just barely finished with the music--5.4/13.70
Brennan- Also 13.7
Mitchell- Introduced as the 2010 gold medallist. the announcer has been mentioning past achievements of gymnasts as they're on deck. Sounds like a looooong wait for her music? Just keeps first pass in (she's on the feed! fierce face!) by millimetres. good height in jumps. Really great 2.5 to front lay with changement jump. getting great hieght tonight FANTASTIC! Gets right into the corner on the double pike but hits it, sold the choreo amazingly! GO LOZ! 14.8

I am trying make a screencap, gaah!

We hear arena announcer say lauren's floor d-score has been upgraded 6.2 to 6.3 after an enquiry

(In the pic, Rissa is wearing her track pants)

I refuse to believe the whole team was ok with that leo. MOI, JE LE REFUSE!

Vault:
Brennan- Tsuk full only? 13.76 She was zooming by in the background of a Romania fx on the feed.
Little- 14.533 for her Baitova, nice!
Mitchell- hands down on hers!? 13.2

Aus goes into 6th, GB hit a great bars rotation so they might have the advantage? Onto bars and hopefully the kind of rotation we had the other day! (oh boy, BBC team just told us Britain are in FOURTH. Oh boy, talk about a bitter pill to swallow!)

Bars:
Brown- 13.8, sounds like it was a nice routine. (5.6/8.2)
Mitchell- 5,2/13.366
Miller- COME ON RISSA! Sounds like... she hit! she hit! Stuck dismount 14.075!

Ack, now my feed is jumping like crazy. Keeps cutting to half routines.

The US were in a league of their own tonight. Australia is to be commended for holding it together at their last apparatus and deserve to be in the top 8 in the world. I just feel like some work really needs to be done as we roll on to London.

Aus will finish 8th on 166.739

Onya girls. You're still going to the Olympics. Take away some lessons from here and keep on shining.

mary-anne meltdown, too bad, but no medal for us now

Anon 9:28, sorry to disappoint you but we were never a chance for a medal - no country will break the top 4 of USA, Russia, Romania & china. Realistically I'd expect aust to be ecstatic with a 5th place finish (that sounds negative, but I really think aust has the potential to be the topped ranked team outside the top 4)!!

I think it will be very hard to finish ahead of Japan as well.

Lauren hits

Can someone screen cap the aussie leo on bbc?

Mez said...

I will try if they show it again but i'm doing seven other things at once!

Anonymous said...

The chinese just fly on that beam. They look so light.

Anonymous said...

Eeewww those Aussie leotards. OMG they're foul!!!

Anonymous said...

i've got a screenshot of leos but not sure how to post here soz!
that arab tv link is amazing THANKYOU
how ironic they get it and gym isn't big there and we get nothing
go aussies!

Shan said...

Thanks anon 9:27pm, it's working a lot better than I would have thought, thanks for the link!
Mez, I'm trying to flick b/w the link and other updates, I dón't know how you manage to update and watch and all at once, thanks so much for the work you do, always!

Anonymous said...

Does anybody know who designs the leo?

Mez said...

guys i put a screencap up, managed to capture larissa as they held on tsurumi. she's wearing her trackies though

Anonymous said...

what a hideous leo.... :(

Anonymous said...

Honestly the aussies are just not quite in the same league here, they dont have the difficulty to contend. Just noticed germany has 3 bar routines around 6.3 or higher, for us to be putting up 5.6 is crazy and shows how lax we have been in upgrading. Sometimes you've gotta take risks instead of playing it safe all the time.

GK do the leos I think. WHY can't we go with our colours Green and Gold!
Whats with Purple,pink and orange?
YUKKKK Thats not Australian!

Anonymous said...

Emily just fell on her face doing Vault warm up! Yikes!

Anonymous said...

lauren bombed vault...

Anonymous said...

Em Vaulted Ok.

Anonymous said...

some of the other countries are going to have to stuff up for us to retain our no.6 ranking.... such a shame after a good prelims. Hopefully the girls can finish strongly on bars.

Anonymous said...

That leotard is terrible!! Who wears orange?? If they are going to make the girls wear that you might as well use yellow!! Atleast that is an Australian colour.

Anonymous said...

the leo designer must have thought they were tumbling for the circus, and dressed them like clowns

Anonymous said...

Miller the rock... who would have thought! I know I did!

Mez said...

We'll either be 7th or 8th i think.

Anonymous said...

We averaged just under 13.87 for our 12 routines. Not flash considering what the top contenders are scoring.

Anonymous said...

Ha!!! Unfortunately, you are not too far off the mark. Perhpas it looks better in person?? Probably not - I am being generous I think....

Anonymous said...

That comment was about the leotards...not the gymnastics!!

Anonymous said...

Overall, to be honest I think Aus did quite well...it is a shame Lauren didn't make the floor final and beam final....but as a team....at the end of the day the girls secured a place to the Olympics. Great effort.

In the team final we had a fall on beam and one on vault?? Correct?? In prelims just one fall on floor and beam.....comapred to past world championships I think it is a reasonable effort. Most routines were hit....unfortunately, I guess my standards aren't higher than that as I've been disappointed in the past with terrible meltdowns.

Anonymous said...

they need to upgrade. simple as that.

Anonymous said...

Good job girls. If only the Italians, the French etc could have averaged 13.87 and they too would have qualified for the main dance

Anonymous said...

The goal was to secure a spot at the 2012 Olympics.... WOO HOO they did it!

Anything after that is jam... we knew going in that they had a battle. Great Job girls

Anonymous said...

farout US beat China! and i forgot how tiny those chinese girls are.. woahh

Anonymous said...

At least they can see where they need to improve

Anonymous said...

We choked. Simple as that.
....And thats not a dig at the girls.

Lauren has been in a league of her own talent-wise in australia all year.
The girls have no decent competition to train with and provide friendly rivalry,so what can we expect.

Anonymous said...

Without the falls we would have comfortably finished 6th...Next year in selections we need to really reward girls who have the difficulty. We have made the Olympics now give it an actual big shot!

Anonymous said...

Lauren had the highest floor score of the night. Here's hoping through some miracle/unfortunate event she gets to compete in finals.

Anonymous said...

But a high floor routine now means nothing really. CONSISTENCY!

that girl chokes when it counts. She needs to learn to hold it together!
(but i guess when you are the best hope for the country by a looong shot...)

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry but how does she choke when it counts? She hit that floor routine in prelimes and finals in 09 and 10. 2 medals from 2 finals doesn't seem like a bad record to me. The only other time her floor routine really cost her was the AA in 09.

Anonymous said...

...Im not just talking about her floor routine. (though floor has been inconsistent with landings etc all year - but thats just because they are pushing lots of difficulty so they dont have to upgrade much for next year)

Lauren is a very good gymnast. and she has the ability to be up there with the worlds best. but consistency with performing GREAT routines when it counts is not laurens strong point.... thats all.

Anonymous said...

Thank the gods we still have a couple of 91/92 babes going around!

Anonymous said...

Actually, the girls loved it! So there you have it.

Anonymous said...

That leo was hideous!!! Pink and orange are like blue and green.... they should never be seen together! I would have a comp like they did if I was forced to wear a hideous leotard like that!

Anonymous said...

I agree anon at 11.43. They have got to be the most hideous leos I've seen since the Sydney Harbour bridge one way back in the early 90's. I don't blame the girls for having an off night wearing that!!!

Oh and I highly doubt the girls loved it!!!

Anonymous said...

At least if they are upgrading Lauren now, she has a good almost year to get said upgrades consistent. Which is what she needs for London. These worlds were important but not as important as the Olympics. The girls will move on and learn greatly from this experience.
I'm super proud of them - it's not like they slacked off or didn't try. They did the best they could. And that was enough to get us through to London and I personally reckon that's fantastic!
